Newsgroup Etiquette
There are a number of simple guidelines to follow when using ITEE newsgroups, these ensure that both you and your peers get the maximum benefit from the newsgroups.
Read before you post
Often if you are having a problem, other people have had a similar problem to you and may have already posted a question about it. It is important that you check the newsgroup for any postings relating to your question before you post. That way it cuts down on redundant posts and makes it easier for your peers to read. Often you will be directed to a previous person's post if you ask an identical question already answered anyway.
Don't post answers to assessment
If you have a question about an assessment item, don't post a complete or partial answer until the assessment date has passed and your lecturer says that its okay. This specifically includes code. It is important to note that even if the assessment date has passed there may be other students still working on the assessment - either to submit the assessment late or under an extension.
If you have a specific question about your particular solution to the assignment, contact a tutor or a lecturer privately. Otherwise, attempt to explain your reasoning and the problem you are having at a high-level, rather than in concrete code. Alternatively, derive a completely different problem that pertains to the assessment issue and post a solution to that.
Don't flame
A course newsgroup is not a forum to vent personal criticisms about lecturers, tutors or fellow students in the course.
Keep it on topic
If you want to make reply to a post with a tenuous relationship to the material (eg fun fact, pop culture reference), it's best to alter the subject to say off topic so that people can skip the post if it isn't relavant to their particular problem.
Provide a clear subject
When asking a question, attempt to make the subject as specific as possible. Eg Clarification of Question 2 of Assignment 1. As opposed to just Assignment 1. This way when a person didn't have that question at the time of posting, but does now, they can easily find the post that was refering to this problem.

Backing up your work
When working on ITEE uni work, it is extremely important to perform frequent backups. Investing in USB flash drive is recommended to take things to and from uni however, it should not be relied upon (eg "My assignment is due this afternoon and I need to take my work from home to uni, or I won't be able to finish or submit my assignment"). It is suggested that in these sorts of scenarios it's wise to carry two backup media of the same work or backup on one portable medium and FTP your work to the ITEE network (see Connecting to the ITEE network from home). Additionally, another suggestion when you are working at uni is to frequently e-mail your work to yourself.
Please note the advice on the Student Help website on the issue. Floppy drives are being phased out from ITEE lab computers, thus using floppies to backup work is not recommended.

Important Exam Information (ITEE only)
Examination Timetable
Towards the end of semester, the examination timetable is made available. It is the responsibility of the student to be aware of when his/her exams are. If the student fails to check exam times and this results in the student not sitting his/her exam, this will not be an accepted excuse for a supplementary or special examination. Students' personal examination timetables are available online on MySi-net.
Supplementary Examinations
The policy on Supplementary Examinations is course-specific. Students are requested to check the course profile or with the course co-ordinator.
Viewing Exam Papers
Exam papers can be viewed at special Exam Script Viewing sessions arranged by the School. There are a couple of these each semester. ITEE students are sent an e-mail detailing when these are to be held. The rules of the sessions can be found here.
